State of Bahia

Bahia is the fourth most populous state of Brazil and the most southern of the Northeast of Brazil, a bit larger than France and the state with the longest coast (1.183 kms/740 mls). The capitol of Bahia is the city of Salvador.

South of Salvador is the „Costa do Cacau” (cacao coast) which remembers of the cacao plantations in the 18th century.

Bahia has the highest percentage of black population and is the state with the most African influence. The people of the Pataxó is one of the indigenous populations, which still fight with the farmers for their lands. [More about the state of Bahia in wikipedia].
